Himalayan Risk Research Institute (HRI) is an institute of young and enthusiastic researchers established with the vision to reduce the risk of losses from different types of hazard through research.
The world has been facing different types of hazard. In developing countries, some minor hazards are becoming disasters. Similarly, in case of Nepal, the country was struck by several disasters in the past and has been facing some recurring disasters each year. There have been many activities related to disaster risk management, still the disaster has been occuring. Those activities seem to be ineffective in the management process. Hence, the in-depth study of disaster is needed in case of Nepal. Thus, HRI is established to conduct the research and in-depth study on such disasters as well as the potential hazards.
The institute consists of five young researchers from various fields of engineering and health. The institute also collaborate with some other experts as per the needs. This institute aims to create and provide a research platform for young researchers as well as implement the findings of the research to ultimately reduce the risk of hazard, finally contributing to the Sustainable Development Goals and building risk free, resilient, and livable environment.
HRI HAS PROFESSIONALS, RESEARCHERS AND STUDENTS FROM THE FOLLOWING FIELDS:
- CIVIL ENGINEERING
- DISASTER RISK REDUCTION
- GEOGRAPHIC INFORMATION SYSTEM (GIS)
- RECONSTRUCTION AND RETROFITTING OF STRUCTURES
- WATER SANITATION AND HYGIENE
HRI IS CAPABLE FOR RESEARCH, PLANNING, DESIGN, CONSTRUCTION, MONITORING AND EVALUATION IN MENTIONED FIELDS IN ITS OWN.
