Youth Participation in Disaster Recovery – A Case Study of 2015 Gorkha Earthquake

As mentioned in the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction (SFDRR), youths are the agent of change. Various activities from youths are witnessed in the past disaster which have led to effective response and recovery. This case study presents the situation of youth’s participation during the recovery of 2015 Gorkha Earthquake (aka. Nepal Earthquake of 2015).

The integrated disaster risk reduction (IDRR) has become an important strategy for disaster risk reduction. It is a comprehensive and integrated approach that embraces the management of all types of disasters and all phases of the disaster management cycle, focuses on disaster hazard and vulnerability, i.e. the underlying conditions of disasters, and emphasizes a multi-level, multi-dimensional, multi-disciplinary coordination among stakeholders.
